The BRED family was deeply saddened by the loss of S. M. Tazzamal Haque, a valued Chairman of our Executive Committee. His contributions to BRED will be deeply missed. His dedication and mentorship good virtues, e.g., compassion, innovative spirit, tireless work ethics will be deeply missed by all who knew him during his tenure of BRED. He would love to say and remember ‘At BRED, we consider ourselves a family dedicated to the economic emancipation, education, dignity, and rights of the destitute and deprived. However, I urge the affluent members of our society to join hands with us in our mission, as it is our moral obligation to stand beside those in need. With your support and our holistic approaches, I am confident that we can pave the way for a more prosperous Bangladesh’.
Today we join together in mourning the loss of a great soul, a visionary and a leader. His life was characterized by devotion and service to others, whether through development sectors or in fighting for social justice in the Organizational level.
Leading the Bangladesh Rural Economic Development (BRED), He spearheaded the introduction of the development social works which inspired all staffs of BRED. Today, because of his vision and foresight, so many marginalized people benefit from our organization which supports a fair, efficient, sustainable and transparent world. As an Executive Board Member of BRED, he championed local and national level advocacy for all concerned, and for strengthening of stakeholder’s protection and community services. He actively and tirelessly engaged root level advocacy groups in his work to build standards, to improve local health system, food safety, to connect fairness in social work services and to make sure we “leave no-one behind”.
“O thou the last fulfilment of life,
Death, my death, come and whisper to me!
Day after day I have kept watch for thee;
for thee have I borne the joys and pangs of life”.
In the words of Nelson Mandela: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” BRED General and Executive Committee members, Senior Management Team and Colleagues, send sincere and deepest condolences to the immediate and extended family of S. M. Tazzamal Haque. We know that words can give little consolation to relieve grief, but we should like you to know that we too will be grieving for him.
Striving towards the realization of a gender-equitable society through rural development and the protection of human rights for marginalized populations, Bangladesh Rural Economic Development (BRED) has been operating as a non-profit organization in Bangladesh since 1995. Our mission is centered on empowering the impoverished and underprivileged by facilitating education, skill transfer, access to justice, human rights protection, and sustainable livelihoods. Since our inception, BRED has fostered robust partnerships and collaborations with government entities, scholars, and development stakeholders.
At BRED, our primary focus lies in the empowerment of women, facilitating meaningful engagement of adolescents, and uplifting marginalized communities through knowledge dissemination and skill enhancement. We are dedicated to enhancing health outcomes, promoting sanitation, and facilitating access to essential services. Additionally, we are committed to exploring and enhancing livelihood opportunities for marginalized populations through economic empowerment and income generation initiatives. Gender equality promotion and the assurance of human rights for all remain fundamental pillars of our work.
Throughout our 27-year journey, BRED has amassed extensive expertise in community mobilization, institution building, and capacity enhancement. We have successfully implemented diverse multi-sectoral development programs, collaborating closely with Local Government Institutions such as Union Parishads, Pourashavas, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to foster socio-economic progress at the grassroots level. BRED is anticipated to continue its journey towards a just society with the support of all.
